Research in sedimentology includes the sequence stratigraphy of Paleozoic mixed carbonate-siliciclastic systems, Proterozoic through Cenozoic basin analysis, snowball Earth and isotope geochemistry.

Research in petroleum geology focuses on faulting, fluid migration pathways and reservoir seals.

Paleobiology research includes the paleoecology of reef and bioherm communities through time, response of Paleozoic biofacies to sea-level oscillations, Proterozoic eukaryote ecolgy and diversity, Cenozoic mammalian faunas, particularly for the Eocene, and dinosaur Paleobiology.
