USU Geology Scholarships
Benchmark Fund – This fund assists graduate students with tuition and other costs associated with obtaining their degrees.
John M. Branch Memorial Scholarship – In memory of alumnus John Branch, this scholarship provides assistance to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated an interest and aptitude in geology.
Donald W. Fiesinger Award – This award was developed to honor Don's many contributions to the Department of Geology and College of Science. The award is given to a graduating senior who has made outstanding contributions to the department's activities and programs.
Clyde T. Hardy Memorial Field Camp Scholarship – In memory of longtime faculty member Clyde Hardy, this endowment provides scholarship support for USU undergraduate geology students to attend field camp.
Peter T. Kolesar Scholarship – This scholarship was developed to honor Peter’s many contributions to the Department of Geology and its students. The scholarship is awarded to upper-division undergraduate geology students in good standing, particularly those experiencing financial need.
Peter R. McKillop Memorial Scholarship – An endowment in memory of Peter, this scholarship provides support for a graduate student who has a strong academic record and is not already well funded. Need and demonstrated interest or aptitude in other fields, such as the arts, humanities, community service, or music may be used as a secondary selection criterion.
Robert Q. Oaks, Jr. Scholarship – The Robert Q. Oaks, Jr. Scholarship was developed to recognize Bob’s dedication and excellence in teaching and challenging all his students. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are nearing the completion of their degrees at USU. Graduate students mus have completed their thesis or dissertation proposals and plan to remain in-residence. All students must demonstrate financial need and have completed a majority of their course work as determind by their advisors.
David Rider Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of David by his family, this award is given to an undergraduate geology student and is based on GPA and financial need.
Thomas A. Riemondy Memorial Scholarship – In memory of an alumnus, this is awarded to a nonresident undergraduate student majoring in geology.
Kim R. Robeson Memorial Fund – This award provides support for non-class-related trips for graduate students, including trips organized by student groups, particularly to help with expenses related to thesis laboratory and field work.
Beryl O. and Tura H. Springer Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship benefits junior or higher undergraduate or graduate geology students with excellence in academic achievement. Although mining is the source of the money for this scholarship, it is not required as an interest of the recipient.
Summit Fund – The Summit Fund was established to provide scholarship support for USU Geology graduate students and to honor the work of the late Craig B. Forster.
J. Stewart Williams Graduate Fellowship – In memory of a former faculty member, department head, and graduate dean, this endowment provides support for summer research costs for graduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
